Firely scales up in the US, founds new business entity

NEW YORK, February 19, 2024 – In a significant milestone, Firely, a frontrunner in providing FHIR solutions to payers and healthcare technology companies, has announced its expansion into North America. This strategic move marks a pivotal moment for Firely as it strengthens its commitment to advancing interoperability and innovation in the healthcare sector on an international scale. The expansion caters directly to the growing needs of customers in North America, reinforcing Firely’s position as a key player in shaping the future of healthcare technology solutions.

It’s a seminal moment that signals the healthcare IT company’s commitment to its US customer base, and an ambitious scaling-up of its regional operations.

Meeting the growing demand for interoperability

Continuing the journey that began with its first US customer in 2018 Firely B.V., headquartered in Amsterdam, has been a trailblazer in FHIR solutions, providing 100% FHIR-based software, technical consultancy and regulatory support to the US healthcare industry for more than six years. With demand continuing to grow, the Dutch company has now stepped up its US presence by establishing a new company: Firely USA Inc. This dedicated operational entity enhances Firely’s presence in North America and its ability to deliver tailored solutions for interoperability and regulatory compliance, especially in the light of final rules such as CMS-0057-F.

Initiators of the FHIR standard

Healthcare organizations around the world already know Firely as one of the initiators of FHIR, an active player in the FHIR community, and the organizer of HL7 FHIR DevDays. The company’s principals have been involved in the development of the data standard since the very first planning meeting. (You can read more about those heady days here.)

Existing staff have already moved across to the new business, where they’re joined by a fresh intake of talented technical specialists. The key names to know in Firely USA Inc are:

  • Michelle Beck: SVP Growth – North America
Michelle is a highly-experienced business development professional, focused on building and sustaining successful partnerships with Firely clients in North America.
  • Rich Almeida: VP Product Strategy & Compliance

  • Mat Osmanski: Principal Consultant
Mat joined the Firely team in December 2023. With more than 15 years’ experience implementing regulatory health quality and interoperability programs, he brings with him a strong belief in the potential of FHIR to empower patients and make healthcare more efficient and transparent. He supports customers to navigate the Firely product suite, offering essential training sessions and workshops to ensure successful product implementations.
  • Tim Prudhomme: Technical Consultant

As the most recent recruit to Firely’s North American team, Tim will be at the forefront of enabling Firely clients to harness the power of Firely Server.

“As a company, we believe that better data drives better healthcare. With FHIR gaining traction worldwide, this is a great time to extend Firely’s involvement with the standard in the US healthcare sector, and I’m delighted to be moving forward with such an exceptional team.”
