This workshop introduces the Firely .NET SDK for FHIR and teaches you how to develop FHIR applications in C#. It will cover:

  • How to build HL7 FHIR applications using Firely .NET SDK
  • The data model and parser/serializer framework
  • The Firely .NET SDK validation process

The hands-on nature allows attendees to gain an in-depth understanding of the material covered.

  • Know the various components of the Firely .Net SDK library and explain their uses within an application
  • Use the Firely .Net SDK library to create a working client application on your own laptop

  • This training course is intended for those involved in the implementation of FHIR-enabled applications using the .NET framework.

Course duration

  • An online workshop happens 2-3 hours a day, for 2 days
  • In-person workshops happen 6 hours a day, for 1 day

Prerequisites

Attendees are assumed to:

  • Have basic knowledge of the FHIR standard
  • Be familiar with C# and the .NET framework
  • Have Visual Studio installed (code or community edition suffice)

    • Exercise: parsing data into FHIR objects
  • Communicating with a FHIR server
    • Using the SDK’s FhirClient
    • Adding authentication
    • Exercise: upload and retrieve data from a public server
  • SDK validation functions
    • Using the core specification
    • Using custom profiles
    • Exercise: validating data
  • (optional) Using FHIRPath functions
    • Bonus exercise: extracting data to create narrative
